At the Plate with Glenpool’s Sutton Wood – Presented by Tulsa Bone & Joint

Glenpool junior Sutton Wood has grown into a versatile cornerstone for the Warriors baseball program, embracing a role that keeps him involved in every part of the game. A utility infielder and right-handed pitcher, Wood has spent the past year transforming his repertoire on the mound, focusing on adding velocity and sharpening his overall skill set.

That work has paid off in more ways than just a livelier fastball. Wood said the grind of training and competing has strengthened his mental toughness and sharpened his communication on and off the field. Those qualities show up in how he talks to teammates, handles adversity and accepts whatever assignment coaches give him on a given day.

Wood traces his love for sports back to his mom, who introduced him to athletics early and has modeled the life skills he tries to carry into competition. At school, he points to Mrs. Carter, whom he had in both eighth and 11th grade, as his favorite teacher because of her calm demeanor and ability to make class feel easy and relaxed. He says those influences have helped him stay grounded as expectations rise.

On the field, former teammate Denim Sands made a lasting impact by being both a steady friend and someone who helped Wood develop as a baseball player. Now, as he grows into more of a leader, Wood says his favorite part of representing Glenpool is knowing he can do his part to help improve the program and lift up younger players coming behind him.

Wood leans on simple but steady advice: don’t listen to the outside noise. He also takes inspiration from former major leaguer Ben Zobrist, a fellow utility player who could impact the game from multiple spots. As he looks ahead, Wood makes a point to thank Coach Allman for everything he has done in a short time at Glenpool, crediting him for helping push the program and Wood himself forward.
