The Berryhill High School baseball team enters the 2026 season with high expectations after falling just short of a state tournament berth last year. The Chiefs return nearly their entire roster from a 2025 squad that won more than 30 games, captured a district championship and lost in the super regionals in a nine-inning thriller.
“We return nearly everyone from last year’s team that won over 30 games and was district champions and finished with a loss in the super regionals in a nine-inning thriller to go to the state tournament,” head coach Austin Jarvis said.
Despite the success, Berryhill remains young with only three seniors on the roster. The team will lean heavily on a talented sophomore class, six of whom started as freshmen last season.
“We are still relatively young with only three seniors and will rely heavily on a good core of talented sophomores, six of which saw starting roles throughout the year as freshmen last year,” Jarvis said.
Leading the way is senior Ian Malicott, a four-year starter who will anchor the lineup as the leadoff hitter and play outfield while also contributing as a left-handed pitcher.
“Ian developed some power last year hitting for average and power as well as having a very high OBP,” Jarvis said.
Senior shortstop Isaiah Jarvis returns to the top of the order after a successful sophomore campaign batting second.
“Zay will return as our starting shortstop and will be a mainstay at the top to middle of the order once again this year after a successful year in the two-hole last year,” coach Jarvis said.
The sophomore class features emerging talent, including left-handed pitcher Collin Brafford, returning starters Dawson Hedge at third base and Luke Rudick on the mound, and center fielder Jarret Norman.
Senior catcher Gavin Fielder provides veteran leadership behind the plate, while senior Tyge Spitzer returns as the starting first baseman.
With experienced returners and promising young talent, the Chiefs appear positioned for another championship run.
