Coweta High School
Coweta senior Mattea Holm plays Libero for the varsity team and has helped the Lady Tigers to a No. 9 ranking in Class 5A.
“This season I’ve enjoyed just getting to play my sport. To enjoy my last high school year playing volleyball and soaking up all the memories,” said Holm.
The senior started playing volleyball when she was in the sixth grade. Now in her final season, Holm said she has made some great memories with her teammates.
“My favorite memory at Coweta would be the game against Union! It was such a fun game to play. The team connected in different ways. Even though we lost we fought hard and learned things on how to better ourselves for our next game,” said Holm.
Holm said she prepares for each match the same way.
“I mentally prepare myself for games by picturing the court and picturing myself on serve receive. I picture the ball coming at me and focusing on a perfect pass. I picture my defense and what I need to do to get a good pass,” said Holm.
In the classroom, Holm said she enjoys her science classes and plans to attend college after high school.
“My plan is to go to OSU and get my undergraduate in pre-med and then get my graduates to be a physician assistant,” said Holm.
The academic standards at CHS is a big reason Holm believes she is prepared for college.
“CHS holds a high standard for grades. Especially if you play a sport. They really want you to do academics as well as athletically.”
As for the best advice she has ever received? “The best advice I’ve received is probably from my mother. Play your game, don’t care what others say about you. Take what coach says and give your best. A mistake is a mistake brush it off and fix if for next time.”
