KIEFER TROJANS

Coach: TRENT WORLEY

8-4

OFFENSE

There are many reasons for the Trojan faithful to be optimistic coming into the new season. Head coach Trent Worley returns a solid nucleus of players who are hungry for more than just a winning season. “Optimistic about next year. We return seven starters on offense (4 OL and QB) and eight on defense (5 DB.) We have a big and physical offensive line returning and a QB entering his 2nd year as a starter. We were very youthful, especially on defense, last year. Looking forward to competing for a district title again, and our team has big goals for next year. Hoping to make another deep run in the playoffs and build on the three previous seasons (22-Quarterfinals, 23-Semifinals, 24- Quarterfinals.), “ said coach Worley. Cash Worley (6-5, 195, Jr.) threw for 924 yards and 10 TDs with 260 yards on the ground and another touchdown to his credit as a sophomore. The spread wing-t offense the Trojans will run gives Worley the opportunity to be a dual-threat QB. But his offensive line is a big key to the overall success of the offense. Tackles John Watkins (6-0, 265, Sr.) and Brennen Watkins (6-4, 300, Jr.) will seal the edges and keep defenders off Worley’s back. Guards Sawyer Conner (6-3, 310, Jr.) and Talon Welker (5-11, 260, Jr.) will move the line of scrimmage and help running back Dakota Morris (5-9, 160, Sr.) find the open lane. Morris rushed for 548 yards and seven TDs last season.

DEFENSE

Eight starters are back for the Trojan defense and coach Worley believes they have the players to be a special unit. “We are a odd front 3-3 defense that plays with five DBs. We play multiple fronts and coverages. We have opportunities to blitz/pressure from different locations on the field. Aggressive defense that prides itself in pursuing to the football,” said coach Worley. Blake Stopp (5-10, 170, Sr.) is one of those DBs with big numbers. Last season Stopp accounted for 84 tackles, two fumble recoveries, five pass breakups, and one interception. Lucas Boyles (5-10, 150, Jr.) and Daxton Smith (5-11, 150, So.) join Stopp in the secondary. Smith grabbed 34 tackles and three INTs while Boyles had 18 tackles and is a three-year starter. Linebacker Cameron Bowman (5-11, 175, Sr.) returns as the team leader in tackles with 109 tackles made last season. Bowman also had 12 tackles for loss and one sack. Dezmond Nash (6-1, 225, Sr.) is another productive linebacker who makes plays all over the field. Nash made 68 tackles with four forced fumbles. Also look for two-way player John Watkins to start on the defensive line. Watkins made two sacks with six tackles for loss last year. The coaching staff includes Ryan Kowalewski-DC, Ben Duncan-OL, Jimmy Brown-DB/RB, Burgess Shaw-TE/DL, Rich Duncan-OL, Jeremy Nethon-LB, Blake Byars-WR, and Kyler Holt-DB/RB.
