Sapulpa’s Kason Ashton

At the age of three, Kason Ashton started playing baseball. Little did he know it would take him to the varsity team at Sapulpa High School.

Now a senior, Ashton said he loves competing in Class 6A against some of the best teams in the state. Coming into the new season, Ashton said he continued to work hard to hone his skills and be ready for the first pitch.

“My speed is the strength of my skill set. I’ve improved my leadership for this season,” said Ashton.

This season the Chieftains are opening a new facility and it has the team inspired to go out and perform at a high level. For Ashton, there are many reasons why he is proud to represent SHS.

“What I love most about our program is Coach Irv and his coaching staff, and our brand-new baseball facility,” Ashton said. “I love how close our bond is as a team.”

As for his teammates, Ashton said a former teammate left an impression on him and as a group, they know how to work hard and have fun.

“Jack Blevins left his mark on this program and influenced me in great ways,” Ashton said. “Caiden Widdoes keeps everyone laughing, Jenson Penn is the most serious.”

With the upcoming season approaching, Ashton said he is ready for the season to get underway and is mentally prepared to play at a high level.

“I trust the work I’ve put in throughout the years and remembering to have fun is the most important part of this game,” said Ashton.

Ashton said his goal is to continue playing baseball after high school.

“I would like to play baseball as long as I can and become a fireman, but the goal is getting a scholarship to play at the next level.”

As for inspiration, Ashton said he finds that in his mother who inspires him in all aspects of life.
