A student-athlete is more than just someone who gets to miss class for a game. At Regent Prep, the student-athletes are representatives of their school and student body. They are the face of the school. One student-athlete who represents Regent Prep is a positive manner is John Mark Roller.
Roller has embraced his leadership role on the football team and is looking forward to his final season at Regent.
“Being a senior at Regent means someone is always watching you, which is a blessing and a curse. It allows you to have a major impact to others which is an awesome opportunity. I want to be a leader that is an encourager and motivator,” said Roller.
For Roller and many of his peers, Regent offers something they could not find at other institutions.
“What I enjoy most is that I am able to play multiple sports at a high level and get a Christian based academic experience. I love that they’re re are no egos on the football team at Regent, everyone comes together for one common goal, which is to win it all,” said Roller.
The football, basketball, baseball, and golf athlete also finds time for clubs like STUCO and Beta Club. In the classroom, like the field, Roller looks for an edge. Something to make him standout in a crowd. Academically he found that edge at Huntington Learning Center.
“While I don’t enjoy doing ACT prep, I like paying less for my college education so I’m sticking it out. I also enjoy hanging out with Michael at Huntington. The people at Huntington are great,” said Roller.
Life after high school includes college and Huntington is helping ensure Roller will land at the university of his choice.
“My plans after college are to play football in college. I have not set my mind on a college yet but am looking forward to a great senior season and then will way my options. The advice I would give other students looking to boost their academic skills is to spend less time on your phone and more time paying attention in class,” said Roller.
Away from sports you can find Roller playing the piano, watching movies, and playing golf with his friends. Roller said there are too many people to thank for helping him get to where he is today. From his parents to the coaches, teachers, and youth leaders, Roller is grateful for their efforts and attention.
