
VYPE: What is your favorite part about cross country and why?
Dezmond Reese: My favorite thing about running cross country is the challenge and the mental toughness and discipline it takes.
VYPE: What life lesson or skill has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
DR: In my daily life it taught me discipline and consistency to do the things that I may not feel like doing sometimes.
VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?
DR: My favorite part about being on a team is the supportive culture and the shared struggle. Everyone running the same tough courses and working hard to improve builds a unique kind of respect and friendship.
VYPE: Why are you passionate about your sport?
DR: I’m passionate about cross country because I believe that cross country is a very versatile sport that can contribute to almost all sports. Cross country is more than just running. It helps you develop discipline and can contribute to many aspects in your life, even the simple things.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher and subject in school and why?
DR: My favorite teacher is Mr. Jackson because he’s chill and encourages students to be consistent in doing the right things.
VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
DR: I find inspiration in Jesus Christ because His love and teachings guide me to live with compassion and purpose every day.
VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?
DR: The team identity, knowing that it is more than just competing but you’re also representing your teammates, coaches and the effort you put in.
VYPE: What has been your favorite memory and/or accomplishment of playing?
DR: Getting my first medal in the Haskell cross country meet along with the rest of my teammates.
VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
DR: “Leave it on the floor,” meaning push through and give your all.
