Glenpool’s Lydia Wells

By Elizabeth Contreras

From the moment she first picked up a bat at seven, Glenpool sophomore Lydia wells knew softball would become her passion. Now it is a place to grow, not only as a player, but as a person. Today she’s a catcher, third baseman, and utility player who strives to work hard and lead by example every time she steps on the field.

Living by example is something Wells has been taught from a young age and credits the many influential figures who have helped shape her character.

“I don’t have just one person who’s influenced me,” she says. “My mom shows me how to be strong and brave, my brother leads by example as a hardworking athlete, and my dad taught me how to be coachable and put in the work. My friends, teammates, and coaches all push me to be better every day.”

These influences have helped Wells develop a strong work ethic, a cheerful outlook, and a mindset focused on growth.

The atmosphere at Glenpool, Wells points out, is both encouraging and uplifting.

“We work hard but have fun,” she adds. “Our coaches believe in us just as much as we believe in them.”

Playing both her high school and club team, Iowa Premier, has taught her to adapt, stay flexible, and step into leadership. Balancing practices, games, and travel has pushed her to grow as a player and as a teammate, and Wells explains that her goal this season is simple: “Be the best version of myself I can possibly be to help my team succeed and grow.”

Intentional preparation has been a big part of her success. Before a game, she listens to Christian music and reminds herself to trust the work she has already put in. That discipline was put to the test when she broke her hand before a season, forcing her to sit out.

“It was a challenge, but also an opportunity for growth so I could come back stronger,” she recalls.

That experience brought with it lessons in patience and resilience, qualities that stick with her every time she picks up a glove. Her love of softball isn’t isolated just to the game but rather, all the many components that come along with it.

“I love the connections and friends I have made,” shares Wells. “I love the grind of getting better every day, I love the feeling of success. But most of all, I love how softball makes me truly happy.”

Forever chasing that feeling of hitting her very first home run, Lydia Wells doesn’t miss an opportunity to live out the joy she feels on the field.

After graduation, Wells plans include playing college softball while pursuing a degree in physical therapy. Her drive, dedication, and love for the game suggest she will leave a lasting impact wherever she plays next. No matter what comes after Glenpool, one thing is clear: Lydia Wells will always play with heart and a smile, inspiring her teammates and everyone who watches her play.
