Wrestling runs in Rylee Allen’s family. Her brother and dad both wrestled, leading to her interest in the sport. Now a sophomore at Sand Springs Public Schools, no challenge is too great to overcome. Allen goes out on the mat and gets her job done.

The best part of wrestling, she says, is getting to work for your matches. The intensity and individual effort that go into wrestling drive her passion to compete. Putting in the effort and always striving to be her best is a lesson she learned from wrestling.

“You’re only hurting yourself if you don’t try your hardest,” Allen said.

Many teachers at Sand Springs have influenced Allen but one stands out. Wrestling coach, Coach Cleveland, is Allen’s favorite teacher. The teammates by your side at every practice and every match also make a positive impact. Allen says Hannah Stevenson is a teammate who makes a big impression on her.

“Hannah is always there when you need her. She has a big heart and is very good and knowledgeable in wrestling,” she says.

Allen was exposed to wrestling at an early age through her family. In the seventh grade, she officially joined the team and became a wrestler. Her family’s influence and support help her excel at her sport.

“I thought it would be good and I was right,” says Allen, thanking her parents, “I would like to thank my mom and dad; they always supported me and they love to watch me wrestle.”

Being part of the Sand Springs community is important to Allen. Through wrestling, she can represent her school as an athlete and show people that Sand Springs is a great place to live.

In her free time, Allen likes reading her Bible. She is also creative and enjoys doing arts and crafts with friends. After high school, she wants to wrestle in college and get her cosmetology license.
