Sand Springs Girls Soccer Reloading – Presented by Tulsa Bone & Joint
Charles Page High School’s girls soccer team will take the field this season with a new look and a determined mindset after graduating a large senior class. Head coach David Fancher said the Sandites are embracing the challenge of rebuilding around a young, energetic core.
“Having lost six seniors last year, we will be looking for key role players to fill those large shoes,” Fancher said. “We have a young but very hungry to succeed team and I’m beyond excited to see the intensity they bring to the field this year.”
One of the players expected to help anchor that effort is junior midfielder Mya Wagers. Wagers is known for her work rate and consistency, rarely taking a play off and routinely arriving early to training sessions. Coaches say her solid technical skills, positive attitude and strong work ethic give her a chance to keep improving and succeed at the next level after high school.
Freshman Kate Smith will bring an immediate spark to the lineup. Smith plays with high intensity, challenges every ball and is unafraid of physical play against older opponents. Her energy and competitiveness often set the tone for the group, and as she sharpens her skills and game awareness, she has the potential to grow into a major impact player for the Sandites.
Senior leader Sophia Hart will provide the stability and poise the young roster needs. As the team’s only senior, Hart sets the standard for character on and off the field, leading with intelligence, maturity and accountability. She makes smart decisions in possession, supports her teammates and offers a steady presence that the rest of the squad relies on every day.
With Wagers’ consistency, Smith’s edge and Hart’s leadership, Fancher believes the Sandites can develop quickly as the season unfolds. The coach said he expects his players’ intensity and hunger to define this year’s team identity, even as new role players grow into expanded responsibilities.
