Edison Eagles – Football Team Preview – Presented by Blue Sky Bank

EDISON EAGLES

Coach: KIP SHAW

2-8

Edison Preparatory School enters the upcoming season as a young but hungry program under second-year head coach Kip Shaw, who is intent on continuing to build the culture within the program. The staff says Edison Football is “fully committed to the culture we are building,” noting that players understand the standards and expectations that come with wearing the Edison jersey and have embraced the daily work required to improve. After a strong winter and spring that helped the team become faster, stronger and more disciplined, Shaw is excited to see that growth show up on Friday nights this fall.

Offensively, Edison returns five starters and will lean on junior quarterback Cam Stephenson (5-10, 185) to guide a physical, aggressive and fast-paced attack. The goal is to stretch defenses vertically and horizontally, play fast and put playmakers in one-on-one situations while taking what the defense gives them. Senior running back Kamel Issah (5-11, 205) gives the unit a sturdy presence in the backfield, and junior receiver Christian Taylor (6-1, 210) offers size and athleticism on the perimeter. Sophomore receiver Jayden Gifford (5-10, 170) and sophomore wideout Jermontae Cook (6-4, 215) add more length and speed outside, while sophomore right guard Finley Kelly (6-2, 270) provides size up front as the offensive line continues to develop around the scheme.

Defensively, the Eagles bring back six starters in a system designed to be aggressive up front while staying sound on the back end. Senior defensive tackle Jeran Williams (6-2, 280), a starter since his freshman year, remains a strong, physical presence in the middle with a quick first step that causes problems for opposing offenses. Shaw calls Williams a natural leader who understands and embraces the staff’s expectations and leads by example on and off the field. Junior defensive end Wesley Snow (6-3, 240) and junior end Martez McGhee (6-2, 250) give Edison size and power on the edges, and sophomore defensive back Javon Brown (5-10, 170) returns after making an immediate impact as a freshman starter, bringing toughness, confidence and a natural feel for the ball in the secondary. Senior linebacker Sam Mullins (5-10, 185) and junior safety Carlos Molina (5-10, 170) round out a unit that wants to disrupt the line of scrimmage, swarm to the ball and live by a simple standard: do your job, play with great effort and be accountable on every snap.
