Collinsville’s Joely Wise
Collinsville High School senior Joely Wise has spent her varsity golf career learning how to balance competition, friendship and the steady mindset the game demands. A four-year member of the Lady Cardinals program, Wise said the sport has challenged her to stay composed even when a round starts to slip away.
“The toughest part about competitive golf is being able to stay levelheaded when things don’t go as planned,” Wise said.
That approach has helped shape her into both a dependable player and a grounded teammate. Wise said one of the best parts of being around the program is the bond she shares with her teammates.
“We all joke with each other and are always finding something to laugh at,” Wise said.
Her closest connection on the team has been built over four seasons alongside one of her best friends.
“I’ve been able to play all four years with one of my best friends, Karsyn,” Wise said. “We spend a lot of our time together on the course and always have a good friendly competition.”
Wise said that mix of support and competitiveness has made her high school experience memorable. It also reflects what she values about Collinsville beyond athletics.
“I’ve gone to Collinsville my whole life and seeing the community always show up for one another is special,” Wise said.
Off the course, Wise draws motivation from her father.
“My dad inspires me because he is always the first one to tell me to keep my head up and keep grinding,” Wise said.
On the course, Wise knows exactly where her game is strongest. She said her driver is the club she trusts most because it gives her consistency and puts her in favorable position early in a hole.
“My favorite club to hit is my driver,” Wise said. “It’s my most consistent club and my smoothest swing.”
She added that distance off the tee is one of her biggest strengths.
“My strength is how far I am able to hit my driver, it usually puts me in a good position,” Wise said. “I am working to improve my wedges and just short game in general.”
As her senior year winds down, Wise already has her next step in mind. She said she plans to attend the University of Arkansas and hopes to become a physical therapist, carrying with her the lessons Collinsville golf taught about resilience, perspective and enjoying the people around her.
