Coweta’s Dalton Warren
On most spring evenings at Coweta High School, the voice cutting through the infield chatter belongs to junior catcher Dalton Warren, a steady presence behind the plate for the Tigers varsity baseball team.
Warren has grown up in Coweta’s baseball culture, and the significance of wearing the Tigers uniform is not lost on him. “Representing Coweta is special because I have been here my whole life, it means more now being on a bigger field with a bigger environment,” Warren said. That bigger stage has brought expectations, but also opportunity for a player who prides himself on leadership and toughness.
As the Tigers’ catcher, Warren is tasked with managing pitchers, controlling the running game and staying locked in on every pitch. “I play catcher, the toughest thing for me behind the plate is focusing back in after a big situation; sometimes it is difficult to lock back in after an important play,” he said. Still, Warren considers his defensive skills and approach in the batter’s box to be key parts of his game. “My strengths of my game right now would be my defensive ability behind the plate and producing quality at bats at the plate,” he said. “One thing you can always work on is staying consistent.”
That focus on consistency traces back to home. Warren credits his father for shaping his mindset on and off the field. “My Dad inspires me, his work ethic and use of accountability inspires me to be a leader and to work as hard as I can no matter what,” he said. That example has helped Warren embrace the responsibilities that come with being a varsity athlete at Coweta. “Being in athletics has taught me the right and wrong ways of being a leader, it has also taught me how to work as a team,” he said.
Warren said the Tigers’ dugout is defined by resilience and personality. “What I love most about the team is that we refuse to give up deep in a close game,” he said. He points to teammates who keep the energy high over the course of a long season. “Mason Lott is our most vocal teammate, and Hayden Warren is always finding something to make a joke about,” he said.
Away from the field, Warren is involved in the National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars and spends his downtime outdoors. “I am a part of NHS, and the NSHSS,” he said. “In my free time I enjoy hunting, fishing, and golfing.”
Whether in the classroom, in the woods or behind the plate, Warren’s approach remains the same: work hard, stay accountable and keep finding ways to lead.
