Owasso’s Olivia Staton
Olivia Staton is enjoying her senior year at Owasso High School while getting excited about playing soccer forNorthwestern Oklahoma State University. She started playing as a kindergartener, never imagining how important soccer would become in her life.
The skill set that makes Olivia such a valuable player on the field is her soccer IQ and her through balls. An area of improvement Olivia made this year is her field awareness. She plays center mid but is always ready for a new challenge. “I would like to try forward so I can score more goals!” she exclaims.
Olivia feels lucky to be part of a school with teachers and coaches who help balance academics and sports. “Owasso is a great place for a student-athlete because they try their best to help you balance the two. Our coach is also flexible when we have academic activities and need to miss a practice,” she said.
She enjoys being on a team full of positive energy. “I love how my teammates are always encouraging me even when I mess up. They are always there for me,” says Olivia.
“Millie Byerly has impressed me this season because she is such an amazing player and never gives up. Now that she is hurt, she is still always encouraging everyone to do their best and that takes passion and love for your teammates!
“Rachel Skalnik has been an inspiration to me on and off the field. She has always been there for me whenever I need her. Her walk with the Lord is so inspiring and has taught me so many things,” said Olivia.
Soccer is a big part of Olivia’s life, but she has interests away from the field as well. “When I have downtime, I like to hang out with friends, go to church, and read a good book! This summer I plan on going to the beach with my friends for a senior trip, going to church camp, and getting ready for college soccer!”
Olivia is also excited to begin her academic career at NWOSU. She will be working to earn her bachelor’s in nursing.
