Owasso’s Drew Frankenfield
Playing quarterback at the varsity level in Oklahoma is a tough task. Playing quarterback at the 6A-I level requires true talent, intelligence and a willingness to put in countless hours honing your craft and studying film. Owasso High School’s Drew Frankenfield is adding his name to a long list of QBs to suit up and compete at a high level in the largest classification in Oklahoma.
This season, head coach Bill Blankenship makes his return to the sideline after a short hiatus from the game. The move will certainly benefit Frankenfield. Co-offensive coordinator and QB coach Josh Blankenship also joined the staff making this a QB dream job.
“When coach Blankenship came back he wrote down all the quarterbacks he has ever coached, so there’s high expectations, and he is really pushing me towards being a leader, and putting more on me heading into the season. It’s not so much about reads it’s more about the role and the significance of being a quarterback to him,” said Frankenfield.
This spring, Frankenfield and the Rams have shuffled in some new faces, but the work ethic remains and the QB is excited about what he sees from his teammates.
“Everybody’s worked very hard. Our O-line has a bunch of new faces, and they are stepping up,” Frankenfield said. “We get all our skill guys back and they are doing good. The new guys on the offensive line have stepped up. Kam Miller, Sam Hoback, and Ben Duggins to go alongside all of our returning starters on the defensive side of the ball have impressed me.”
Frankenfield said he’s worked on improving his own numbers in the weight room and his technique on the field.
“I’ve added some additional strength and have progressed my mechanics,” Frankenfield said. “I have goals to continue my career and my drive to not fail. The best players I’ve been around are also the hardest workers.”
As a leader, the now junior QB said he lives by this motto; “Experience and calmness in the chaos.” Bringing that to the huddle and the locker room will certainly help this team succeed. But one team looms heavy on every schedule. The Bixby Spartans have been the menace teams struggle against, but Frankenfield points to one stat that could be the difference in beating the champs.
“We played them twice last year and the team that won the turnover battle won the game, he said.
Away from the field, Frankenfield said he enjoys spending time with family and friends, being in the water and watching his two favorite teams, the Houston Texans and the OKC Thunder.
