Owasso’s Carter Langenderfer

Within the course of one week, Owasso High School senior safety Carter Langenderfer took an unofficial visit, took an official visit, and committed to Oklahoma State to continue his football career.

“My relationships with all the coaches is amazing and was ultimately the reason I chose Oklahoma State,” said Langenderfer, who held offers from over 25 schools, including Tulsa and Iowa State. “They make me feel at home every time I am there, and that reassures me that I made the right decision.”

Langenderfer’s football career began in the second grade while he was attending Sand Springs Public Schools. Carter and the gridiron were an immediate match.

“I love it because it’s the perfect game,” Langenderfer said. “Everything has to be in sync for things to work.”

In the eighth grade, Langenderfer transferred to Owasso and met head football coach Bill Blankenship, an Oklahoma coaching legend, state champion and Hall-of-Famer. As Langenderfer embarked on his varsity football career, it was Blankenship who guided his progress.

“The biggest challenge was definitely getting used to the speed of the game,” Langenderfer said. “Coach B’s wisdom helped out a lot with things like that.”

At the end of Langenderfer’s sophomore season in 2023, Blankenship announced his retirement from coaching after seven seasons and two state championships at Owasso, but the headset continued to call his name. Only a year later, OHS announced that Blankenship had agreed to return to the sideline before the 2025 season.

“The most unique part is probably right now with my old coach coming out of retirement and coming back to coach us for my senior year,” Langenderfer said. “Me and Coach Blankenship have a pretty good relationship and we both have a lot of trust for each other. The main thing that has been talked about is just leading the whole team.”
