Owasso’s Cydney Hilliard
VYPE: Cydney, what position are you playing on the volleyball team and what grade are you going into this year?
Cydney Hilliard: I am going to play as a middle this year, and I am going into 11th grade.
VYPE: What have you noticed about the team coming into the new season?
CH: What I’ve noticed about the team so far is that we have a great group of girls. They have been putting in a lot of work and dedication working on their skills, and I think it will show come playing time.
VYPE: What do you love most about your team and your teammates?
CH: What I love most about my team is their perseverance. When we are having a tough practice or lifting session, instead of shutting down, we encourage each other. I think that this helps us a lot.
VYPE: What skill have you improved the most coming into the season?
CH: I think I have improved my speed across the net most of all coming into the season. I have learned how to read the setters faster which can help me get more touches on blocks.
VYPE: How important are academics to you?
CH: Academics are so important to me because not only can it act as a foundation to be able to work in the future, but because it is so important to be educated.
VYPE: Do you have a favorite subject or favorite teacher?
CH: One of my favorite teachers I’ve had has been Mr. Shuck, my 10th grade English teacher. What makes him so special as a teacher is how much he cares about his students. Not only does he prepare his students, but he teaches them valuable lessons about life, and asks important questions. I learned so much from him.
VYPE: What would you like to do after you graduate?
CH: I have yet to decide on a profession that I plan to go into, however I do know that I would love the opportunity to continue to play volleyball after high school if possible.
VYPE: Who inspires you?
CH: A lot of my inspiration definitely comes from my parents. They have always worked to give me and my brother everything we could need or want. My dad was also very successful in sports, which is very inspiring to me. They always encourage me to play my best.
VYPE: What do you enjoy doing with your free time?
CH: In my free time, I really enjoy reading. I also like to do some art, such as drawing or writing.
