COLLINSVILLE CARDINALS

Coach: KEVIN JONES

7-4

OFFENSE

The Cardinals and head coach Kevin Jones have a few questions to answer coming into the spring and summer. Replacing several players lost to graduation is the priority. “Lost a lot of players up front. Young players will need to step up. Lots of skill players returning,” said coach Jones. One player making his return is four-year starter Scott Rigby (5-10, 195, Sr.). Rigby has accounted for 2,677 yards on 324 carries with 41 touchdowns. Rigby is a key component in the multiple spread offense and the balanced attack the Cardinal offense will run again this season. Ben Daniels (5-7, 160, Sr.) starts at wide receiver where he accounted for 1,120 yards on 63 receptions with 11 TDs to his credit. Another athlete looking to move the chains is Austin Boren (6-1, 210, Sr.) who can help the team in several ways. Boren has thrown for 505 yards with seven TDs, has 209 yards receiving with two TDs, and 97 yards rushing with a touchdown. Running the offensive line is Maverick Carlile (6-2, 260, Jr.). Carlile will need to help younger linemen mature into roles as starters. Also look for Bo Daniels (5-9, 170, Fr.), the younger brother of Ben Daniels. Bo can help the team on both sides of the ball and give Rigby a break at running back. Colten Wilson (6-5, 315) has been called a “diamond in the rough,” for the Cardinals. Wilson will likely play tackle on offense.

DEFENSE

In the base 3-4 defense, look for the Caridnals to run multiple fronts and play an aggressive, blitzing style of defense. Ben Daniels will start in the secondary where he made 95 tackles, seven INTs and scored one TD last season. Daniels play is key for the Cardinals. Boren will shore up the secondary at strong safety. As a junior, Boren made 51 tackles with three sacks and one INT. Rigby can play with outside linebacker or safety. Rigby accounted for 132 tackles and six sacks last year. He also added two INTs. Talan Rush (6-2, 190, Sr.) and Sean Ross (6-1, 190, Sr.) are two linebackers who fly all over the field making plays. Rush recorded 125 tackles with four INTs, while Ross grabbed 143 tackles and six sacks. Inside linebacker Jackson Arnett (5-11, 195, Sr.)  is a run stopper who makes plays between the tackles and has the athleticism to drop in coverage. Arnett made 101 tackles with one INT and a touchdown. Max Whitekiller (Jr.) will see time at safety and slot receiver on offense. Only playing in six games, Whitekiller made 47 tackles and grabbed one INT. The coaching staff includes Cory James – Offensive Coordinator, Brannon Feese – Defensive Coordinator, Tony Daniels, Boone Upky, Kevin Smith, Andrew Gray, Robert Borgstadt, and Tyler Davidson.
