9 Questions with Max Whitekiller of Collinsville High School

VYPE: What grade are you in and when did you start playing football? What position do you play now?

Max Whitekiller: I am going into my junior year at Collinsville high school, and I started playing when I was in 1st grade. I am a wide receiver and a defensive back.

VYPE: Who has been a big influence in your life, on or off the field?

MW: My dad has been the biggest influence for me off the field. He is the one who taught me how to be mentally tough and how to deal with stuff when it doesn’t go my way.

VYPE: What makes Collinsville a great place to play football and why?

MW: The coaches not only strive to make to a better player, but they also strive to make you a better young man in general.

VYPE: What moment stands out to you the most during your time as a football player?

MW: Last year when I was a sophomore I had an interception in my first varsity game.

VYPE: How do you mentally prepare for a game?

MW: I mentally prepare for a game by watching as much film as possible and just trusting what my coaches tell me to do.

VYPE: What have you improved this season?

MW: The biggest thing in both of [my]positions is footwork so I just continue to work on that and ultimately helps me become better at both positions 

VYPE: What other clubs or groups are you involved in at school?

MW: I also run track for Collinsville. I run in the 4×100, 4×200, and the open 200-meter dash. 

VYPE: What is something that the scoreboard will never reflect about you or your team?

MW: The scoreboard will never reflect the relationships and the brotherhood that this team has.

VYPE: How do you define mental toughness, and when was the last time you really had to dig for it? 

MW: Mental toughness to me is the mental qualities that someone has that help them push through adversity even when their body says they can’t. I have to have mental toughness during every single summer workout I go through.
