Collinsville’s Scott Rigby

Anyone who has played the Collinsville Cardinals in the last few years has certainly traded paint with the running back/linebacker Scott Rigby.

Rigby is entering his senior year in what will be his 10th year of strapping up the pads and putting on the helmet. Following in the footsteps of his older brother, Rigby said when he needs a boost, he knows exactly who to go to.

“My older brother has always been my biggest influence on and off the field. My brother has been down the road I’ve been on, and he’s helped me through a lot of hard times. Anytime I’m struggling with confidence during the season he always helps me improve it,” said Rigby.

As a running back Rigby has rushed for 2,677 yards on 324 carries with 41 touchdowns. His production has been crucial to the Cardinals success. For Rigby, being a football player at CHS is special and something he does not take for granted.

“The culture Collinsville has is what makes it such a cool place to play; following in the footsteps of so many great players is truly an honor,” said Rigby.

To mentally prepare for a game, Rigby has developed his own way of preparing for competition while staying focused on the task at hand.

“Before each game, I always give thanks to God for giving me the opportunity to play the game. After that’s done, I listen to calming music to put myself in the right headspace. I define mental toughness as persevering through adversity. Last time I had to dig for it was in our spring practice conditioning,” Rigby said. “I’m no longer scared to underperform. I know that everything that I do is in God’s hands and knowing that brings me peace.”

Playing running back and linebacker or safety requires a lot physically, but Rigby is ready to rise to the occasion. Rigby continues to work on his craft and develop his game for the next level.

“As running back, my speed and ability to make people miss have improved tremendously over the offseason. I’ve worked super hard to improve all my weak spots that I had last year, and there’s still a lot of improvements to be made,” said Rigby.

The ultimate goal is to help his team succeed in his last year of prep football, but Rigby is hopeful he will continue his playing career at the next level.

“I plan to attend a college to play football, and study dental hygiene. I’m still looking at options, the college that gives me the best opportunity to be successful in the future,” said Rigby.
