Collinsville’s Mollie Cavanaugh
It’s an exciting time to be a Lady Cardinal, playing softball for head coach Kylee Cole. Coming into the new season several players are back including junior Mollie Cavanaugh who coach Cole calls the “old soul” of the team.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed watching her grow into the confident athlete she is. Mollie is kind, funny, driven, focused …. but with the perfect dash of ornery. I can fully trust her to handle/lead through any situation with grace,” said coach Cole.
Cavanaugh said the team is excited for the upcoming season and she is personally ready to take her place in the outfield and help this team win in any way she can.
“I’m so excited for this team coming into a new season we are looking great already,” Cavanaugh said. “I’m currently playing in the outfield mainly right and left.”
Her passion for the game and her team is obvious, but Cavanuagh is quick to give her teammates credit for their efforts and talents on the field.
“What I love most about my team and teammates is how close we get in such a short period of time. We love having fun but also working hard at the same time,” Cavanaugh said. “One of my teammates you need to keep an eye on is Parker Knight. She’s a stud at second base and she hits balls hard at the plate. She extremely talented and passionate about the game.”
Cavanaugh takes her academics serious, and she is hopeful the opportunity to play at the next level will present itself.
“After I graduate, I would love to play softball in college,” Cavanaugh said. “My favorite subject is definitely science. And my favorite teacher is also my cheer coach Alicia Herald. She always takes the time to help me one on one with anything I need.”
In her free time, Cavanaugh said she enjoys spending time with friends and family. The junior said her parents are a big source of inspiration on and off the field.
“I enjoy hanging out with friends and family. I love swimming and playing sand volleyball in my backyard,” Cavanaugh said. “My parents inspire me the most. They are always there for me through everything. They have taught me how to be a good person and work hard for the things you want.”
