Skiatook’s Macy Province
Skiatook junior Macy Province pours all her energy into one sport, and she would not have it any other way. Province plays varsity soccer for the Bulldogs, typically lining up at center midfield or outside mid, where she is counted on to control the tempo and set the tone with her work rate.
Soccer is the only sport she plays, which allows her to focus fully on developing her game and her leadership. That dedication has paid off with back-to-back All-District honors and two stints as team captain during her high school career, achievements she lists among her proudest moments. She also points to Skiatook’s three straight playoff appearances and the bond with her teammates as memories she will never forget.
Province said soccer has shaped who she is far beyond the field. She has learned to treat everyone with respect, keep a positive attitude and always give her best effort, no matter the circumstances. “It is not about motivation, it is about dedication,” Province said. A message from her strength and conditioning coach also stuck with her: there are 24 hours in a day, and the most successful people take advantage of all 24 by working hard on and off the field.
In the classroom, Province credits 7th-grade math teacher Mrs. Matthews and 10th-grade geometry teacher Mrs. Bizzell for guiding her in the right direction and pushing her to try her best, even when she might fail. At home, she looks up to her mother, whom she calls the strongest person she knows and praises for her drive and work ethic.
Province also draws inspiration from teammate and close friend Miley Decker, a younger player she admires for her mental toughness and talent. Her favorite part of representing Skiatook is stepping on the field knowing she is playing for every student, teacher and alum who has walked the school’s halls, a responsibility that pushes her to give her absolute best. She carries advice that has become a personal mantra: step out of your comfort zone, do not be afraid of failing and remember, “You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.”
